The Family Literacy Program
Wonderfully Made Foundation’s philosophy is that parents want their children to be successful, but not all parents have the skills to help their child/ren find success. Our commitment is to provide children and parents an opportunity to learn together. Through our work, we aim to help families become educated and successful. Literacy is crucial in building a stronger and productive community.Thus emphasizing learning within a family context, the WMF Literacy Program enhances the relationships between parents and children and strengthens parents’ roles as supporters of their children’s education.  This is accomplished by providing: 
     GED preparation
     Reading tutoring (All Ages)
     Opportunities for families to read and engage in learning activities together, called our “FAMILY READING NIGHTS”
     Each child/parent a book during each literacy activity

The Children’s Literacy Program
Remember Dr. Seuss, Curious George, the Bernstein Bears? Books can have an incredible effect on children’s lives, yet there’s only one book for every 300 kids living in underserved communities in the U.S. So Wonderfully Made Foundation is working to get books in the hands of ALL underserved children in the OKC metropolitan area, and vulnerable communities, including the homeless community.

The Wonderfully Made Foundation realizes the power of reading and giving children the chance to explore new worlds, dream big, and develop RICH language skills. Help us get books and reading opportunities into the hands and hearts of children who need it the most.

Wonderfully Made Foundation’s Children’s Literacy Program operates on one simple and astounding fact; being read to as a child is the foremost indicator of academic success in childhood. If a child can read at grade level by 3rd grade, he/she will continue to read at grade level throughout his./her academic career. A child who succeeds in school will remain there, earning a chance at a better job and a better life in the years ahead. A child who lacks early exposure to reading often suffers with low self-esteem, struggles academically, and is at higher risk for substance abuse, teen pregnancy, and delinquency. Succeeding begins with reading.

Children with literacy problems typically come from low-income families, have no books at home, and have caregivers who are not aware of the importance of reading to their children. Yet studies have proven, beyond dispute, that access to age-appropriate books and reading aloud to children are essential to developing language and reading skills.

Thus the Wonderfully Made Foundation Children’s Literacy Program promotes and encourages reading by providing each child a backpack (pictured) enclosed with a book, reading activity calendar, and a stuffed animal provided by the WMF Literacy Program, Sweet Dreams Children’s Foundation, and dedicated volunteers who serve as Children’s Literacy Coaches and encourage, model, and promote reading.
